Georgia Tech B-back Marcus Marshall was named the ACC’s rookie of the week Monday after rushing for 159 yards on 10 carries with two touchdowns against Pittsburgh Saturday. It was the first time that a Tech player has been honored this season with an ACC player of the week award.

In the 31-28 loss, Marshall had two 58-yard runs, including one on Tech’s third play from scrimmage that went for a touchdown and tied the game at 7. It was his third run of 50 yards or more this season, which is more than 98 teams in FBS, according to cfbstats.com. Pitt entered the game ranking No. 6 in the country in rushing defense at 84.8 rushing yards per game.

Marshall has 439 rushing yards, which is the most by any Tech first-year freshman running back in coach Paul Johnson’s tenure. He is also averaging 73.2 yards, which is eighth in the ACC.

Tech’s last ACC rookie of the week was Jaybo Shaw in 2008.
