Georgia Tech B-back Marcus Allen is expected to return to practice this week after an apparent ankle injury suffered in last Thursday’s season-opening win over Alcorn State. The No. 16 Yellow Jackets are preparing this week for a game Saturday against Tulane at Bobby Dodd Stadium. A backup to starter Patrick Skov, Allen played briefly before the injury and did not return as a precautionary measure.

“I think Marcus’ll play (this week),” coach Paul Johnson said at his Monday news conference. “We’ll see. He’s probably not going to practice for a day or two – I think at least (Monday) he’ll be out – but I think he’ll be O.K.”

In his first career game at B-back, Allen ran three times for 21 yards, all gained in one second-quarter series, before suffering the injury. With Allen out, backup B-back Marcus Marshall took advantage of the extra snaps to finish the night with 184 rushing yards on eight carries, two for touchdowns.

Johnson also said that linebacker Beau Hankins has returned to practice. Hankins missed the Alcorn State game with an ankle injury.

Allen began the preseason as the starter at B-back but fell behind Skov, the graduate transfer from Stanford. He remains in Johnson’s plans. Johnson made mention that Allen “brings some things to the table” and said that he could envision situations where he would play all three B-backs, Skov, Marshall and Allen.
