Luke Johns, a defensive end from Southeast Whitfield Academy, has signed his letter of intent. Johns, 6-foot-5 and 250 pounds, was rated a three-star prospect (247 Sports composite). He also reported offers from Georgia Southern, Colorado State and Rutgers.

According to offensive line coach Ron West, who led Johns’ recruitment, Johns high jumped 6’10” when he weighed 200 pounds.

“I’ve never seen a kid with that kind of explosive power,” West said on the team’s online broadcast on Wednesday.

Johns will move into a position that needs depth, as defensive ends KeShun Freeman and Antonio Simmons finished up their careers this past season and Anree Saint-Amour will be a senior this coming season.
