Tim Lappano will be Georgia State's interim football coach for the season's final two games. Trent Miles was fired on Saturday after a loss to Louisiana-Monroe.
Lappano is also the team’s wide receiver coach and has helped develop Robert Davis, who just became the school’s all-time receiving leader, and Penny Hart, who was last season named the Sun Belt Conference newcomer of the year.
Lappano is a veteran coach who worked with Calvin Johnson at the Detroit Lions. He also been on staff with the 49ers and Seahawks in the NFL.
As a college coach, his experience includes having been offensive coordinator at the University of Washington and Oregon State.
Athletic director Charlie Cobb said some of the leaders on the team suggested that Lappano be the interim coach. After thinking about it, Cobb asked Lappano if he would.
“The guys will play hard for him,” Cobb said.
