Former NFL player Keary Colbert has agreed to become the wide receivers coach at Georgia State, filling the last position in coach Trent Miles’ staff. Miles couldn’t discuss the hire because it is still being processed by GSU’s human resources department.

Colbert, a graduate of Southern Cal, spent six years in the NFL (2004-08, ’11), with 130 receptions for 1,629 yards. He was drafted in the second round by the Panthers after setting the career receiving record (207) for the Trojans. That record has since been broken.

He spent part of 2010 as a graduate assistant with the Trojans before resigning to pursue his NFL career again.

Colbert will take over what is arguably the deepest and most talented part of the Panthers’ roster.

The team returns Albert Wilson, Danny Williams and Jordan Giles, among others. Wilson was a third-team all-CAA performer last season after catching 48 passes for 947 yards and seven touchdowns.

With Colbert’s decision, no coaches were retained from previous coach Bill Curry’s staff.

The team is currently going through mat drills and will begin spring practice on March 27.

Women’s seniors go out in style

Senior Cody Paulk led Georgia State’s women’s basketball team to a 67-51 victory over George Mason on Senior Day on Sunday.

Paulk finished with 13 points, six rebounds and two blocks. She has 66 blocks this season, one shy of the school’s single-season record, and 199 for her career. One more will give her 200. Just six players have achieved that in CAA history.

Also, Junior Kendra Long hit 4-of-7 3-pointers as part of her 15 points. She has hit 157 3-pointers in her career, breaking the previous career mark of 154 held by Kelcey Roegiers-Jensen (2003-07).

The Panthers (13-13, 5-10) will play at William and Mary on Tuesday.

Baseball on the radio

Georgia State will host Georgia in baseball at 4 p.m. on Tuesday at Panthersville.

The game can be heard on 88.5FM.

The Panthers (4-4) go into the contest having lost their last two games to Grambling.
