Jose Alvarado definitively out for season

Georgia Tech point guard Jose Alvarado is definitively out for the year with a fracture of his left elbow, coach Josh Pastner said Monday. Alvarado suffered the injury in the Yellow Jackets’ loss to Duke Sunday night at McCamish Pavilion.

After the game, Pastner said there was a "high probability" that Alvarado would not play again this season. Pastner spoke prior to learning that not only had Alvarado dislocated his elbow, but also fractured it. The recovery time for the fracture is six to eight weeks. Pastner said that Alvarado, Tech's second leading scorer at 12.1 points per game and assist leader with 77, may require surgery. He had started all of Tech's 25 games this season, averaging 35 minutes per game.

Tech plays Wake Forest on Wednesday in Winston-Salem, N.C.

“It’s going to be hard to replace him, but we’re going to have to find a way to get it done,” he said.

Alvarado suffered the injury when he took a hard fall after challenging a shot by Duke forward Javin DeLaurier.

Alvarado was at practice Monday afternoon at the Zelnak Center wearing a sling. Earlier in the day, he had sent a tweet offering thanks for prayers and well wishes.

“I am staying positive and I’ll be back even stronger,” he wrote.
