Georgia Tech moved up from No. 16 to No. 11 in the College Football Playoff rankings released Tuesday night following the Yellow Jackets’ overtime victory over Georgia. The Bulldogs dropped from No. 9 to No. 14.

The No. 11 slot is the highest that Tech has been ranked since the Yellow Jackets were No. 9 in the BCS and Associated Press rankings following their ACC championship win over Clemson in 2009. Tech is No. 12 in both the AP and coaches polls.

Florida State, Tech’s opponent in Saturday’s ACC championship game, dropped from No. 3 to 4 following its 24-19 win over Florida on Saturday. In coach Paul Johnson’s tenure, the Jackets have faced a higher-ranked opponent just once, then-No. 3 Georgia in 2012, a 42-10 loss in Athens. Tech defeated then-No. 4 Virginia Tech in 2009 28-23 at Bobby Dodd Stadium.

Clemson moved from No. 21 to No. 18 after its win over South Carolina. Were Tech to lose to the Seminoles and FSU were selected for the four-team College Football Playoff, the Jackets would need to stay ahead of the Tigers in order to be the ACC representative in the Orange Bowl. The Jackets will go to the Orange Bowl, barring a highly unlikely promotion to the playoff, with a win.
