Xavier Gantt missed a significant portion of his final season after knee surgery, but the Buford back stuck with Georgia Tech and the Yellow Jackets stuck with him.

Three things to know about Gantt:

1. Ready to go: Gantt committed to Tech last February. Both sides stuck to their commitment, even after Gantt had to undergo minor surgery on his left knee this offseason. He missed nine games recovering from his injury, but Buford coach Jess Simpson said he was better than ever upon his return to the field.

“We got him back Senior Night, and I thought he was as good as he’d ever been,” Simpson said. “I thought he was a year stronger, more physical and violent. The way he played the game, really played with the edge and hunger.”

2. Perfect for option: A future A-back in Tech's option attack, Gantt has the speed to be a difference-maker on the perimeter for the Jackets. "He's a really fast guy, but his ability to change directions in a short area, then accelerate again … he's got some talent," Simpson said.

3. A two-game total that catches your eye: Playing in just one regular-season game and a playoff game, Gantt rushed for 273 yards and four touchdowns. He comes from a long line of Buford backs that have made it to the next level.
