Georgia Tech quarterback Matthew Jordan will miss the remainder of spring practice with a foot injury suffered in the team’s Saturday morning scrimmage at Bobby Dodd Stadium. It was described as a non-contact injury.

A team spokesman did not know how far past the end of spring practice Jordan was expected to be out. Jordan went into spring drills as the No. 1 quarterback, and coach Paul Johnson said it was his hope that Jordan would win the job by the end of spring practice, which will conclude April 21 with the spring game.

“It’s unfortunate that Matthew will miss the rest of the spring, but we’re looking forward to getting him back and competing for the starting position as soon as possible,” Johnson said in a statement.

Without Jordan, a junior, that means more snaps for backups TaQuon Marshall, Lucas Johnson and Jay Jones. Johnson was complimentary of all three quarterbacks in his comments after the scrimmage.

“We have more depth at that position than anywhere, probably,” Johnson said Saturday.

Jordan played nine games last season behind starter Justin Thomas, playing mostly as a goal-line or short-yardage sub. He led the Yellow Jackets to a 30-20 upset of then-No. 18 Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, Va.

Marshall, a junior, played two games last season in mop-up duty. Jones and Lucas Johnson are redshirt freshmen.
