Georgia State’s defense outplayed the offense in Saturday’s second scrimmage. The team will hold its final scrimmage at 1 p.m. next Saturday at Panthersville.
Conner Manning, one of several quarterbacks battling to replace Nick Arbuckle, completed 13 of 26 passes for 147 yards and a touchdown to freshman receiver Jonathan Ifedi.
Emiere Scaife threw two interceptions and Aaron Winchester had five completions, including a 55-yarder to running back Taz Bateman.
The defense had two interceptions, two sacks, a fumble recovery and eight pass breakups.
Cornerback Antreal Allen led the team with two interceptions, while cornerback Jerome Smith and defensive lineman Shawanye Lawrence broke up two passes.
End Mackendy Cheridor and lineman Tevin Jones each had a sack. Linebacker Chase Middleton recovered a fumble.
Brandon Wright hit a 52-yard field goal.
