The academic performance of Georgia Tech’s 15 varsity teams received mostly high marks as the NCAA released Academic Progress Rate scores Wednesday. Three Yellow Jackets teams posted the highest scores for their sports in the ACC. A fourth was second.

Of Tech’s 15 teams, 13 scored 980 or better out of a possible 1,000 on their APR score, which measures eligibility, retention and progress toward graduation. Twelve teams improved their scores from last year’s scores.

At the head of the class were the golf, men’s swimming and diving and volleyball teams, which all tied for the top score in their respective sports in the ACC with a perfect 1,000 for the 2011-12 through 2014-15 academic years. The football team scored a 987, behind only Duke (995) in the ACC.

All four teams were honored by the NCAA last week for having scores in the top 10 percent among teams in their respective sports. It was the golf team’s 11th honor, the men’s swimming team’s third in a row, the football team’s third in four years and the volleyball team’s first.

The two teams below 980 were the baseball (972) and the women’s basketball (954) teams. The baseball team made a slight improvement from 969. The women’s basketball team had a slight drop from 957.
