Georgia running back Herschel Walker has been named the recipient of the 2016 PwC Doak Walker Legends Award.
The award was created in 1998 to honor former running backs who excelled at the collegiate level and went on to distinguish themselves as leaders in their communities. It is named in honor of Doak Walker, a star halfback in college for the SMU Mustangs.
Past recipients include Barry Sanders, Bo Jackson, Jim Brown, Walter Payton, Earl Campbell, Tony Dorsett and Gale Sayers.
Walker will receive the award during a banquet Feb. 18, 2017, in Dallas.
“Herschel Walker’s college football career is as impressive as any in the history of the sport and his accomplishments are a testament to his hard work and perseverance,” Scott Moore, PwC North Texas Managing Partner, said in a release.
Walker was an All-American in all three seasons at Georgia. He led the Bulldogs to a national title as a freshman in 1980 and won the Heisman Trophy in 1982. He played for the New Jersey Generals of the USFL for three years. Walker spent 13 season in the NFL as a member of the Dallas Cowboys and Minnesota Vikings, Philadelphia Eagles and New York Giants.
Walker was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 1999.
