Georgia Tech defensive back Jamal Golden received an additional year of eligibility from the NCAA due to his season-ending shoulder injury last season.
Eligibility-wise, Golden will play the 2014 season as a junior and have one more year remaining. Golden was playing his third season when he got hurt. Golden suffered the injury against North Carolina, the third game of the season. Athletes can apply for a medical hardship waiver to restore a year of eligibility if the injury is season-ending and hasn’t competed in more than 30 percent of the team’s games.
Golden is cleared to participate in spring practice, which begins March 24. The secondary lost starters Jemea Thomas and Louis Young, but will get a boost from Golden and safety Isaiah Johnson, who did not play last season as he was recovering from ACL surgery and took a redshirt.
“I know it was difficult for him to watch from the sidelines last season, but he has worked hard to get healthy and he is eager to get started again this spring,” coach Paul Johnson said in a statement.
