Georgia’s Sahvir Wheeler was named the SEC Freshman of the Week, the league announced Monday.
Wheeler made layups in the final five seconds of both overtime periods to lift Georgia to an 87-85 victory over SMU last week. Wheeler scored with four seconds left in the first overtime to extend the game and then provided the winning margin with 1.9 seconds remaining in the second overtime.
Wheeler finished with nine points, a career-high eight assists and two steals in 35 minutes.
Wheeler is the second Bulldog to earn SEC Freshman of the Week accolades this season. Anthony Edwards was honored on Dec. 2 after averaging 22.3 points in Georgia's three games at the Maui Invitational, including 37 versus Michigan State.
