Georgia Tech will grant signee Romello White’s request to be released from his letter of intent.
“At the end of the day, we’re not going to hold somebody that doesn’t want to be at Georgia Tech,” Tech athletic director Mike Bobinski said Wednesday. “And if it’s not right place, it’s not the right place, and we’re not going to stand in the way. That’s not productive.”
After meeting with new coach Josh Pastner, the four-star power forward from Wheeler High made the decision to request a release from Tech last week. White’s mother Catrece Martinez said in a statement Friday that the family had “begun the process for Romello’s release from GT.”
As of Wednesday, however, the request had apparently yet to be received. Speaking at the ACC spring meetings, Bobinski called the situation “fluid,” a description Pastner used Tuesday. Tech’s expectation is to receive White’s request for his release.
White signed with Tech in November when Brian Gregory was coach. Tech’s other signees, guard Josh Okogie from Shiloh High and forward Christian Matthews from Fort Washington, Md., have elected to remain with the Yellow Jackets.
