Four Georgia Tech walk-ons were placed on scholarship following Wednesday’s practice – quarterback Chase Martenson, defensive backs Zach Matthews and Josh Selembo and B-back Brady Swilling.

With five unused scholarships, coach Paul Johnson was able to reward the four walk-ons for their efforts. He made the announcement at a team meeting following practice, with teammates responding with enthusiastic cheers audible through the walls of the meeting room.

Johnson congratulated the four on his Twitter account, adding, “Hard work pays off!!”

The four players – Swilling is a senior, the rest are juniors – largely have contributed to the team through practicing on the scout team. Combined, they’ve appeared in six games total.

Typically, scholarships awarded in this situation are on a year-to-year basis and may not be renewed if it is needed for a recruit.
