For four years, Georgia Tech walk-on offensive lineman Michael Muns has filled a largely anonymous and taxing role for the Yellow Jackets, playing on the offensive scout team.

On Wednesday night, during a team meeting on the day that players reported for preseason camp, Muns was thanked with a scholarship for his final season. For an in-state student, that’s worth about $29,970.

Teammate Trey Klock paid tribute on Twitter, writing "Congrats to one of the hardest working people I know for earning a scholarship!"

Muns, from Swainsboro, has played in two games in his career. He is listed as a civil engineering major.

Tech had room under its 85-scholarship limit, and, in those circumstances, coach Paul Johnson has often reached the cap by awarding a scholarship to a walk-on. Last August, linebacker Chase Alford and A-back Isiah Willis earned scholarships by virtue of positioning themselves to receive extensive playing time.
