Georgia Tech’s Okogie honored by ACC

Nov 28, 2016

Georgia Tech’s Josh Okogie was named the ACC’s rookie of the week in men’s basketball on Monday.

Okogie scored 38 points, a school record for a freshman, in the Yellow Jackets’ 82-68 win over Tulane last week. Okogie hit 12-of-20 shots and 13-of-18 from the free-throw line.

Okogie’s total was the fourth-most by a freshman in conference history. Okogie also scored 16 points in an 81-73 win over Sam Houston State last week.

Coach Josh Pastner has said he thinks Okogie, a 6-4 guard, has the potential to become an all-ACC performer.

No Tech player has scored more than 38 points since Kenny Anderson went for 42 against Howard on Jan. 2, 1991. He joins some the Yellow Jackets’ all-time greats in scoring at least 30 points: Kenny Anderson (four times), Mark Price (twice), Dion Glover and Thaddeus Young.

Georgia Tech (4-1) will play at Penn State (4-3) on Tuesday.
