Georgia Tech voted for its captains Monday, and the results were not surprising. Players elected quarterback TaQuon Marshall, defensive end KeShun Freeman and nickel back Lawrence Austin. Freeman and Austin are seniors.

Coach Paul Johnson announced the results from his Twitter account. While a first-year starter, the junior Marshall has asserted his leadership through his play-making ability and confident, outgoing manner. Freeman has been a starter since his freshman season and has picked up the leadership mantle once held by fellow defensive linemen Adam Gotsis and Patrick Gamble. Austin is an undersized play-maker who has earned teammates’ respect with his competitiveness and passion for the game.

Marshall is the sixth non-senior to be voted a captain in Johnson’s tenure.

“TaQuon’s done a nice job leading,” Johnson said.
