Georgia Tech coach Paul Johnson has elected to keep injury information under wraps prior to his team’s matchup Saturday at No. 11 Miami.
Asked for an update following Wednesday’s practice, Johnson responded, “We’ll have that (injury report) out (Thursday).”
Under ACC guidelines, teams release an injury report two days prior to league games. In Tech’s most recent game, against North Carolina Sept. 30, offensive linemen Jahaziel Lee (lower body), Andrew Marshall (lower body) and Brad Morgan (upper body) all were held out, as were A-back J.J. Green (upper body) and linebacker David Curry (lower body). Right guard Shamire Devine left the game with what was termed an upper-body injury.
Johnson said last week that Green had returned to practice. Of the others, he said last week that “we’re hopeful they’ll all be back.”
Against the Tar Heels, Tech was thin on the offensive line without Lee, Marshall, Morgan and Devine. The Jackets went down the depth chart to sophomore walk-on Bailey Ivemeyer, who might normally be the No. 5 offensive tackle and had not played an extended amount in his career prior to the game. Tech also burned the redshirt of freshman guard Connor Hansen and Johnson said he contemplated using two other freshman linemen for the first time.
Having depth on Saturday could be particularly critical given the expected weather. The Weather Channel forecast for Miami has a high of 85 degrees with 80 percent humidity. There is also an 80 percent chance of rain.
The injury report is typically released following the end of the team’s practice early Thursday evening.
