Georgia Tech has the third member of its 2017 recruiting class. Forward Moses Wright, from Enloe High in Raleigh, N.C., committed Saturday while on his official visit. The Twitter accounts for both his high school's athletic department and his AAU coach announced the decision.
Wright is an under-the-radar prospect who was not rated by multiple recruiting services. As late as the beginning of last summer, he was mainly pursued by Division II and low Division I schools, according to Wright’s high-school coach Patrick Paye. But Wright grew from 6-foot-4 and 160 pounds as a sophomore to 6-8 and 200 pounds as a senior. He has a 7-2 wingspan and a frame that can put on another 15 pounds, Paye said.
“I’m super glad for him,” Paye said Saturday evening. “I think it’s a well-deserved thing.”
Wright had been scheduled to take an official visit to Charlotte, coached by Tech legend Mark Price, after the visit in Atlanta. Kansas State had also offered him.
“I think Moses has always wanted to play in the ACC,” Paye said. “He’s a very quiet kid, so he’s very respectful, so sometimes it’s hard to get a whole lot out of information out of him. I think that was his leading school. I think that’s what he wanted to do.”
Wright joins signee Jose Alvarado, a point guard from New York, and commit Curtis Haywood, a shooting guard from Mustang, Okla., in Tech’s class. Coach Josh Pastner has four more spots available.
Paye described Wright as having an inside-out game and as a skilled player who has a point guard’s mentality and awareness.
“I just think he has a tremendous work ethic,” Paye said. “He has gone from being a fairly skilled player to having an excellent skill level. Obviously, his growth, just physically, was a huge benefit and I think, again, his work ethic and his mentality allowed his basketball IQ to grow.”
Wright can sign with Tech when the signing period begins April 12.
