Georgia Tech’s injury report for Saturday’s game at No. 11 Miami revealed a devastating outcome for offensive tackle Andrew Marshall. After appearing close to returning to play following a preseason lower-leg injury, Marshall is out for the season with a foot injury. The team released the report Thursday.
It’s a tough break for Marshall, who was expected to start at right tackle for the Jackets in his senior season. Marshall is eligible to return in 2018 as a fifth-year senior. He has played in 33 games and started nine.
Three other players are out for the Miami game – offensive linemen Brad and Scott Morgan (both upper body) and linebacker David Curry (lower body). Marshall and Scott Morgan were the backup centers behind starter Kenny Cooper. It’s unclear who would go in for Cooper in the event of an injury; the depth chart lists Morgan as the No. 2 center.
However, the report does not include offensive tackle Jahaziel Lee, who missed the North Carolina game two weeks ago with a lower-body injury, or right guard Shamire Devine, who left the UNC game with an upper-body injury. That puts Tech in a position where it can rotate three players at tackle (Jake Stickler, Will Bryan and Lee) and two at right guard (Bryan and Devine). That could be particularly helpful Saturday, as the Weather Channel forecast for Saturday for Fort Lauderdale, Fla., is a high of 86 degrees with 79 percent humidity.
Miami, meanwhile, issued a hefty injury report of its own. Aside from star running back Mark Walton having been declared out for the season after an ankle injury against Florida State last week, three more starters are out: right guard Navaughn Donaldson, cornerback Dee Delaney and safety Sheldrick Redwine. Wide receiver Ahmonn Richards is questionable.
