A brief look at Georgia’s victory against Stony Brook on Tuesday night

How the game was won: The Bulldogs (1-1) fell behind 13-5 and 16-8 in the first four minutes against the Seawolves (1-1) of the America East Conference and then grabbed the lead at 22-20 within three more minutes of game clock. During a timeout, coach Mark Fox challenged his team to start playing defense and, using a zone, the Bulldogs buckled down, attacked the basket on offense and by halftime led 48-41. They gradually widened the lead to more than 20 in the second half.

Notable: Fox is 209-121 in his career and Georgia has won all six of its home openers under Fox. It has been 10 years since a Bulldogs team dropped its first home game of a season (Nov. 23, 2004 vs. Western Kentucky). … Charles Mann scored 16 to lead five Bulldogs in double figures in scoring.

Number: 21. Junior guard Carson Puriefoy scored more than half of his team's 41 in the first half to keep Stony Brook in the game by himself. He scored a career-high 26 with a less-enthusiastic second-half performance.

Next: Troy, 7 p.m. Friday, Stegeman Coliseum, Athens. Troy is 1-1 with a 10-point loss to Ole Miss in their previous game.
