Georgia State will receive a $1 million planned gift from Phil and Jeanne Oneacre, the school announced on Monday.
The gift will be earmarked to support scholarships in athletics, the Honors College and the J. Mack Robinson College of Business.
Phil Oneacre earned a Master’s degree from the Robinson College of Business in 1987 and has held season tickets to men’s basketball and football.
He called Georgia State an important part of his life for 30 years and said the planned gift was something he had been considering for the past six years.
“Endowed scholarships met our desires for a lasting gift to assist students working toward their college degrees,” he said in a statement provided by the university.
Over a decade, the gift could help fund dozens, if not hundreds, of scholarships for students and athletes, the university estimates.
“Phil and Jeanne are an important part of the Panther Family because they are dedicated not only to the success of the athletic department, but to students across the whole GSU campus,” athletic director Charlie Cobb said in a statement provided by the university.
The Panther Athletic Club, the fund-raising arm for the athletics department, has seen membership grow by more than 40 percent this year.
There remains three major projects the PAC is raising funds to complete: $2.5 million to build a strength and conditioning facility for football, $5.5 million for a sports performance center and $3.875 million for an academic performance center.
