The Georgia State men’s basketball team will open the Sun Belt Conference season at Georgia Southern on Dec. 31.
The schedules were released by the league office on Thursday. The Panthers went 16-14, 9-11 in the conference to snap their back-to-back regular season titles. The team returns several key pieces, including leading scorer Jeremy Hollowell, Isaiah Williams, Jeff Thomas, Jordan Session and Austin Donaldson. It will also welcome transfers Willie Clayton (Charlotte), Devin Mitchell (Alabama) and Jeremiah Davis (Ball State), and welcome two signees in D’Marcus Simonds and Chris Clerkley.
There are several changes from last year’s schedule reflecting that the Sun Belt is a 12-team league with the addition of Coastal Carolina:
The number of games will be reduced from 20 to 18.
The game days are changing from Thursday and Saturday to Saturday and Monday for the men. The women will remain Thursday and Saturday. The days will reverse in 2017-18.
The number of two-game road trips will be reduced to four, with just one single-game road trip.
After the trip to Statesboro, the Panthers will host South Alabama on Jan. 7 and Troy on Jan. 9 before a two-game road trip to the Louisiana schools, Monroe and Lafayette.
The Panthers will host the Eagles in the regular-season finale on March 4.

Some of Georgia State’s non-conference games for the men’s team have already been announced: at Old Dominion, vs. Wright State and at Middle Tennessee State. The team will also participate in a non-exempt tournament (four games that count as two). Details haven’t been announced.
