Georgia State leads Washington by 14

Sept 20, 2014

Georgia State leads Washington 14-0 at halftime of their game in Seattle.

The Panthers, who have never beaten an FBS team and snapped a 16-game losing streak in the season-opener, have outgained the Huskies in yards 233-73. Washington was more than a 30-point favorite before kick off.

Georgia State scored on a 2-yard pass from Nick Arbuckle to tight end Joel Ruiz, and a 9-yard pass from Arbuckle to Robert Davis.

The Panthers have held Washington’s rushing attack, which was averaging more than 250 yards, to 15.

“Our kids believe that we can win and are executing well on defense,” coach Trent Miles told the Pac-12 Network.

Georgia State is winning despite two interceptions by Arbuckle.

The defense, which was allowing 39.7 points and almost 500 yards per game, is executing against the Huskies’ read option and not allowing any of the speedy wide receivers to get deep.

The plays on offense are developing so fast with bubble-screens and quick slants, Washington’s defense can’t react quickly enough.
