Georgia State’s Atkinson moves to offensive tackle

Georgia State’s football team will be mostly healthy and with positions mostly static when it begins spring practice on Thursday.

The most interesting change will be Hunter Atkinson moving from tight end to offensive tackle, something he asked to do. Atkinson was a one-time Georgia player who left the Bulldogs and eventually enrolled at Georgia State. Coach Trent Miles said Atkinson weighs 270 pounds and is growing. He has four years of eligibility remaining. Miles said he likes his potential at the position. The team is deep at tight end with Keith Rucker, Bill Teknipp and Ari Werts returning.

Turning to injuries, offensive tackle Michael Ivory underwent arthroscopic surgery on his knee and another procedure on his shoulder. Miles said Ivory will be able to do certain things, but will be limited in practices.

Running back Kendrick Dorn will also be limited after undergoing knee surgery last season.

Defensive lineman Marterious Allen will likely miss spring practice after undergoing surgery on his toe.
