Georgia star receiver Malcolm Mitchell will undergo knee surgery and will be out for the rest of spring practice, UGA said Thursday.

The junior split end from Valdosta will undergo an arthroscopic procedure Friday morning at St. Mary’s Hospital for a torn meniscus, according to director of sports medicine Ron Courson. Mitchell will not participate in Saturday’s G-Day game but is expected to return in time for preseason practices in August, he said.

Mitchell apparently sustained the injury to his right knee in the Bulldogs’ scrimmage last Saturday. He was second on the team last season with 572 receiving yards on 40 catches. He also led Georgia with 16 kick returns for 360 yards (22.5 average) last season.
