Toledo running backs coach Kerry Dixon has reportedly been hired by Georgia Tech coach Geoff Collins as his wide receivers coach. The hire was reported by Football Scoop Sunday evening, citing an unnamed source. It could not be confirmed immediately.

Dixon coached with Collins for two seasons (2015-16) at Florida, where Dixon was wide receivers coach and Collins was defensive coordinator. A 2004 graduate of Hampton, he has been coaching at the college level for 12 seasons. In his past five jobs, he has been a running backs coach. His job at Florida was the only one where he coached wide receivers.

At Florida, Dixon coached Antonio Callaway, who was named a freshman All-America in 2015 and reached 1,000 receiving yards in 17 games, the third fewest games required to reach that milestone in school history. He was suspended for the entire 2017 season, but was drafted in the fourth round of the 2018 NFL draft by Cleveland.

Dixon is the second member of Collins’ staff to be identified, following running backs coach Tashard Choice, the Tech great who was hired from North Texas.

Dixon likely would bring recruiting connections from Florida. He coached in the state between 2012 through 2017, at FAU (2012-13), FIU (2014) and Florida (2015-17). He was named a top-25 recruiter in 2016 by Rivals.

In the early signing period this past week, Toledo signed five players from the state of Florida.

Toledo finished its season Friday with a loss to FIU in the Bahamas Bowl.
