Geoff Collins has first commitment from CB Kenan Johnson
New Georgia Tech coach Geoff Collins has his first commitment. Cornerback Kenan Johnson, from Lake Minneola High near Orlando, Fla., announced his decision to join Tech’s recruiting class Monday evening.
His commitment followed an announcement to withdraw his commitment to North Carolina, which itself followed his official visit to Tech over the weekend, during which he was able to visit with Collins.
Johnson, a three-star prospect rated the No. 91 cornerback nationally (247 Sports composite), had been committed to North Carolina since June. However, Tech heated up its pursuit of Johnson in November. Johnson reported an offer from Tech on November 29, four days after Tar Heels coach Larry Fedora was fired. Johnson posted a photo of a home visit with Tech assistant coaches Joe Speed and Shiel Wood on December 4 and he came to Atlanta for his official visit this past weekend.
Johnson’s commitment brings Tech’s total to 17 players who have announced that they plan to sign with Tech.
Multiple recruits who made their official visits this weekend tweeted out their enthusiasm over Collins and Tech, indications of their comfort with how the transition from coach Paul Johnson to Collins has gone.
