Georgia Tech has its third commitment for the 2018 signing class, a prospect from the same New York high school that produced Yellow Jackets legend Kenny Anderson.
Small forward Khalid Moore of New York announced his commitment Tuesday following his official visit to campus this past weekend. Moore also reportedly had been offered by Pittsburgh, Miami, Syracuse, Virginia and Seton Hall, among others. He made the announcement from his Instagram account.
Moore is a 6-foot-8 forward at Archbishop Molloy High, where Anderson starred as a high schooler in the 1980s. He also plays for the New York Rens AAU team, for whom Tech freshman guard Jose Alvarado also played.
Moore, whom Tech began recruiting this past summer and offered a scholarship this fall, is rated a four-star prospect by ESPN (No. 3 in the state of New York) and a three-star prospect by 247 Sports’ composite ranking (No. 5 in the state and No. 51 at his position). He’s seen as an athletic, under-the-radar prospect who can be developed at Tech.
Moore joins guard Michael Devoe of Orlando, Fla., and small forward Kristian Sjolund of Katy, Texas. While Tech has 10 scholarship players eligible to return next season along with the three commits for the maximum of 13, Pastner's plan is to attempt to sign four players this fall, banking on the likelihood that one of the 10 will not return. The fourth will probably be a frontcourt player.
