Georgia Tech cornerback Chris Milton delivered one of the plays of the game with his specialty, a kick block. In the third quarter, Milton came off the edge and laid out to block Virginia Tech kicker Joey Slye’s 32-yard field-goal try. It was his second block of the season and fifth of his career, one that proved critical in the Yellow Jackets’ three-point victory. It was the first time the Hokies had had a field goal blocked since 2006.
Later, Milton was involved in the game’s craziest play, when Georgia Tech cornerback Lawrence Austin stripped running back Marshawn Williams of the ball at the Jackets’ 21-yard line. Milton dove on it, but it squirted away. Hokies quarterback Michael Brewer picked it up and ran it in for the touchdown and a 24-17 fourth-quarter lead.
“It was real frustrating, because I felt like I could have really made a play to get the team off the field and I felt I let the team down a little bit on the play,” Milton said. “I felt I let the team down a little bit on the play.”
