Georgia Tech tennis player Christopher Eubanks was named the ACC player of the year Thursday, becoming the fifth Yellow Jackets player to earn the honor and the first since 2011.
Eubanks, a sophomore from Westlake High, has a 32-6 record this season and was 11-1 in ACC play competing from the No. 1 singles position. He is ranked No. 7 in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association singles rankings and is also No. 42 in doubles with teammate Carlos Benito.
“Chris set a goal to be much more consistent this season than last season. He definitely achieved that goal. He deserves a lot of credit because he won a lot of close matches,” Tech coach Kenny Thorne said in a statement. “Playing at the No. 1 spot in the ACC is a tough ask for anyone. Chris has embraced that position, and the exciting thing is that his game can get a lot better. But what we are most proud of is Chris has competed like a champion and carried himself with humility and integrity. Alumni can be very proud of the way Chris represents Georgia Tech.”
Benito also made the All-ACC third team after a 7-4 record in ACC play from No. 2 singles.
Ranked No. 33 in the country, Tech is awaiting assignment for the NCAA tournament after reaching the quarterfinals of the ACC tournament this past weekend.
