Georgia Tech’s recruiting class for 2020 is now up to 12, which is tied or as many as any school in the ACC. Defensive end Eddie Watkins of Hillcrest High in Evergreen, Ala., announced his commitment Monday, becoming the sixth commitment for coach Geoff Collins in the past 10 days.

Watkins is the third defensive end to commit, following Akelo Stone of Jenkins High in Savannah and JaQuari Wiggles of Mays High. The 12 commitments are tied for as many as any team in the ACC (Clemson, Miami and North Carolina also had 12 as of Monday afternoon) and would appear to be an indicator of the interest level that Collins has helped raise at Tech.

Tech got the 12th commitment of the 2018 signing class on Aug. 1 of last year.

Watkins, listed at 6-foot-3 and 220 pounds, is the first player in the class to commit from Alabama. He reported offers from one other power-conference school, Kentucky, as well as Troy, Tulane and FIU, among others. He is rated a three-star prospect, the No. 43 prospect in the state of Alabama and the No. 1,144 prospect nationally (247 Sports composite). On his highlight video, he shows an ability to fight off blocks and a quickness in enveloping ballcarriers with his long reach.
