Two Georgia Tech freshman offensive linemen are close to getting off the sidelines, probably Saturday against Georgia Southern. Offensive line coach Mike Sewak said he had hoped to play guard Shamire Devine and tackle Trey Klock against Tulane but was not able to do so. On his radio show Monday night, coach Paul Johnson expressed his desire for Devine to play.

“They’re just about ready to come off the bench and get in the game and get in the mix of things,” Sewak said. “I think that they’ll get an opportunity (against Georgia Southern).”

As both are second-string players who could be rushed into a game due to injury, giving them playing time prior to next week’s ACC opener against Virginia Tech would be valuable. Freshman center Andrew Marshall received his first playing time against Tulane, going in for Freddie Burden after he suffered an upper-body injury. Sewak praised Marshall’s play.
