Dedrick Mills, who was dismissed from the Georgia Tech football team Friday for violating athletic-department policy, enrolled at Garden City (Kan.) Community College.
Mills arrived at Garden City on Monday and will be eligible to play this season for the Broncbusters. A typical scenario for someone in Mills’ position would be to stay for a year and transfer to a four-year college.
Were Mills to play one season at Garden City, he could transfer and have two seasons of NCAA eligibility remaining and could play immediately at an FBS school. Mills led the Yellow Jackets in rushing last season as a freshman and tied for third nationally among freshmen with 12 rushing touchdowns. He was expected to play a key role for Tech this season before his dismissal.
Garden City is a powerhouse in the junior-college ranks. The team won the national junior college national championship last year.
Former Tech cornerback Meiko Dotson transferred there after leaving Tech following the 2016 season, but committed to Appalachian State in July and decided against returning to Kansas, according to Garden City coach Jeffrey Sims.
Mills' transfer was first reported in a tweet from a Garden City Telegram reporter.
