Considering the way Georgia Tech linebacker Paul Davis played last year despite the limitations that handcuffed him, much more could be in store this season.

Linebackers coach Andy McCollum said Davis is “light years” ahead of last year in his knowledge and understanding of the Yellow Jackets’ defensive scheme. Last year, as an incoming freshman, Davis earned considerable playing time, finishing eighth on the team with 41 tackles. Despite standing 5-foot-11, he proved himself one of the most physical and instinctual players on the defense. This preseason, Davis is in the first string with the 4-3 alignment and figures to see time in the 4-2-5 formation, also.

“The thing about P.J. is you’re talking about somebody that’s very tough, very physical and loves playing football,” McCollum said.
