The Kansas City Chiefs selected Chris Conley, a wide receiver from Georgia, with the 12th pick in the third round of the NFL draft Friday night.
Conley (6-foot-2, 213 pounds) was the 76th overall pick. The Chiefs moved up four spots in a trade with Minnesota to get in position to take Conley.
A graduate of North Paulding High, Conley was chose the SEC scholar-athlete of the year in 2014. In his career at Georgia, Conley played in 49 games, making 23 starts. He caught 117 passes for 1,938 yards and 20 touchdowns.
Conley had an impressive showing at the NFL combine in February, where he ran the 40-yard dash in 4.35 seconds and recorded a vertical jump of 45 inches.
The skinny: “(Conley is a) tall receiver lacking blazing speed but showcasing enough acceleration to create separation when challenging upfield. Conley displays a natural feel for the position and has hand strength and body control to make tough, contested catches. Lacked gaudy numbers in run-heavy Georgia offense, but his productivity per catch will certainly be noticed by NFL teams — especially if he has good timed speed at the NFL Scouting Combine.” – NFL.com
