What to know: Showell was one of three recruits to take an official visit to Georgia Tech during the weekend of Jan. 20 and commit to Tech on Jan. 22. Showell chose Tech over nine schools, including Wake Forest, Georgia State, Mercer and Minnesota. Showell played linebacker and defensive back at Cartersville High School and will be moved to safety, according to his Cartersville wide receivers coach Antwan Toomer.

WHAT HIS COACH SAID

“I think if (safety) is where Georgia Tech intends to put him, I think that’s a great move because for him, I know teams just saw him pass rush, pass rush and make plays. But you can see his athleticism from a wide-receiver standpoint. I think him in the secondary would actually be a pretty dang good move.” — Toomer
