Capital University coach Craig Candeto is not interested in the Georgia Tech assistant coach opening. Candeto, who played quarterback for coach Paul Johnson at Navy and later served as a graduate assistant at Tech, took the Division III job in Columbus, Ohio, in December.

Navy offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach Ivin Jasper, who played quarterback for Johnson at Hawaii, declined comment through a school spokesman. Jasper also coached for Johnson at Hawaii, Georgia Southern and two stints at Navy.

Candeto said the opportunity to coach under Johnson would be “definitely interesting,” but affirmed his commitment to Capital. He was hired at Capital after coaching the past two years at the Citadel.

“I never wanted to build my career on chasing something else,” he said. “I’m happy here at Capital. I made a commitment and I want to carry that out.”

Candeto praised former Tech assistant Brian Bohannon, whose departure to start the Kennesaw State program created the vacancy. In the 2010 season, his only year at Tech, Candeto worked directly under Bohannon, coaching the B-backs.

“I think he’s a great coach, obviously,” Candeto said. “I think he’s going to do a great job at Kennesaw State.”
