Georgia will play Kentucky twice in basketball this coming season, but it will still face traditional rivals Florida and Tennessee just once apiece, according to the newly-configured SEC schedule just released by UGA on Thursday.

The Bulldogs played all three of those opponents just once last season, all the games were on the road and all three resulted in losses. This year, Kentucky will return a home game and Georgia gets the Gators and the Vols in Stegeman Coliseum in the second year of the unbalanced, 18-game conference schedule.

South Carolina remains UGA’s “permanent rival opponent,” which means they’ll play an annual home-and-home series. The Bulldogs also will play Vanderbilt, Ole Miss and Auburn twice this year. Georgia will open the SEC slate at home against Arkansas. The regular season will end at Auburn and the SEC tournament will be played in Nashville March 11-15.

The SEC won’t officially release its comprehensive schedule until next week. UGA had to turn over its advance copy from the SEC in compliance of a Freedom of Information request for new scheduling agreements.

Included in those documents were contracts to play Georgia Southwestern University in an exhibition game at Stegeman Coliseum on Nov. 7 and Troy University in Athens on Nov. 21. The Bulldogs will pay $5,000 and $100,000, respectively, for those games.

That should effectively complete Georgia’s schedule for this coming season. Coming off last year’s 20-14 season, which included an SEC second-place tie with Kentucky, the Bulldogs will take on a challenging non-conference schedule. It includes a spot in the Preseason NIT, road games at Georgia Tech (Nov. 14) and Kansas State (Dec. 31) and home games against Colorado (Dec. 7) and Seton Hall (Dec. 21).
