The defensive player of the game for either team in Saturday’s spring game may have been White team defensive tackle Brentavious Glanton. Playing with the second-string defense, the redshirt freshman had seven solo tackles and three assists. Among his stops were a sack and 1.5 tackles for loss.

Glanton took advantage of missed assignments by the Gold team offensive line but also beat blocks and held his ground in amassing his tackle total, unusually high for a defensive tackle.

“Brentavious Glanton, he always goes hard, he always works hard,” defensive end KeShun Freeman said. “He’s definitely a great athlete. He’s a guy that you really look at and you just expect it, because he does it a lot. What you guys saw (Saturday) was no different than what we know he is.”

Among other backup tackles, Francis Kallon flashed a few times in pursuit and in beating blocks. Playing for the Gold team (first-string defense), he had one solo tackle and three assisted tackles and 1.5 tackles for loss. They’ll likely compete to get into a tackle rotation with Patrick Gamble and Kyle Cerge-Henderson.

“Francis has had a good spring,” coach Paul Johnson said. “He’s done some good things and played hard.”
