It’s been three weeks since Roquan Smith’s vehicle was broken into and game-worn jerseys were stolen, but it’s never too late to be thankful.

The Athens-Clarke County officer who helped with the investigation received a thank you note from an unlikely source in Smith's new NFL team the Chicago Bears.

The Bears selected Smith with the 8th overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft.

The letter, on official Bears logo letterhead, was written by Bears director of security John Tarpey.

“Thank you all for helping Roquan recover his stolen items,” the letter reads. “They would have been irreplaceable. We have you covered in Chicago. You all are the best.”

The Facebook post also includes a photo of Officer Marcus McQuien, who lifted fingerprints from Smith's vehicle which led to the recovery of the items, according to the post.

While some of Smith’s game-worn items were recovered miles away in Summerville, some electronic items -- including an iPad with the Bears’ playbook -- are still missing.

Smith also issued a tweet thanking the department for their help. Landyn Shane Durham, 20, has been charged with  the thefts. He is free on $22,000 bond.
