Tech’s Roddy Jones moving up TV ladder again
Roddy Jones’ star continues to rise. The former Georgia Tech star accepted a job with ESPN as a sideline reporter and will begin work this fall.
It was only in 2014 that Jones got a break by being named the analyst for the Tech radio broadcast team. He succeeded Rick Strom, who left after nine seasons on the broadcast team to devote more time to watching his children's sporting events.
After proving himself there, Jones was hired the following year by the ACC Network, where he was a sideline reporter for the past two seasons. The hire at ESPN was announced Tuesday. Jones, 28, was a four-year starter for the Yellow Jackets 2008-11, captaining the team as a senior and, most memorably, rushing for 214 yards and two touchdowns in Tech's 2008 upset of Georgia.
"Pumped to be given the opportunity to continue covering CFB and make the move to ESPN!" Jones wrote in a tweet. Jones will team with Anish Shroff (play by play) and Ahmad Brooks (analyst). They are one of eight teams that will be assigned to either ABC or ESPN Saturday games.
