Winston gets away with shove
Twitter lit up when Florida State quarterback Jameis Winston shoved an official in the third quarter of the Seminoles’ 20-17 victory over Boston College.
Short videos showing Winston shoving center judge Michael Webster, were repeatedly retweeted, and Mike Pereira, a former NFL official now working with Fox Sports, wrote that he should have been ejected.
“I’ve looked at this play several times, and in my opinion, Winston should have been penalized for shoving Webster not once, but twice,” Pereira wrote. “In fact, I feel he should have been ejected.”
Instead, Winston remained in the game and led the Seminoles, who are third in the College Football Playoff rankings, to their 26th consecutive victory.
Bowl streak in jeopardy
Virginia Tech has reached a bowl game for 21 consecutive seasons, a streak that will come to an end if the Hokies can’t defeat Virginia on Saturday.
Virginia Tech (5-6, 2-5) has plummeted since its upset of Ohio State in September to the abyss of losing 6-3 in double overtime to Wake Forest on Saturday.
It was the first ACC win of the season for the Demon Deacons.
“We’re not going to spend a lot of time with this ballgame,” coach Frank Beamer said. “I want each of our players, coaches (to say), ‘What I could have done better,’ (and avoid) pointing fingers or anything else. There were so many plays in that ballgame that you just kind of scratch your head at.”
Numbers game
22 Touchdowns by Pittsburgh running back James Conner, who set the ACC's single-season record and tied the school mark held by Tony Dorsett
24 Consecutive games with at least one touchdown pass thrown by Winston
He said it
"We put offensive football back 100 years." — Wake Forest coach Dave Clawson said after the Demon Deacons' 6-3 victory in two overtimes
"The majority of the games we've played this year have been like this game. So this isn't anything new. We have confidence. So, I told them get ready to score." — Winston after FSU's last-second victory
