Georgia Tech B-back Marcus Marshall returned to preseason camp Monday after sitting out the weekend with a minor leg injury.

The injury that occurred last week forced Marshall to sit out the Yellow Jackets’ first scrimmage on Saturday, but was determined to make the best of his time on the sidelines.

“It’s obviously not fun (to sit out that long),” Marshall said. “But I was able to be around everybody and take mental reps the entire time, so it wasn’t that bad.”

In Marshall’s absence, freshman B-back Dedrick Mills increased his first-team reps.

Quarterbacks and B-backs’ coach Bryan Cook noticed unquestionable improvement in Mills’ performance.

Cook noted “mishaps” and “mental lapses” in Mills’ camp performance exist, but not as often as in the spring.

“I think he’s taken advantage of (the extra reps),” Cook said. “He had a couple of intermediate runs (on Monday) and he was just doing a decent job of running through armed tackles and for us at that position. That’s important. We didn’t have that a ton last year.”

If you don’t look at it that way, you’re never gonna increase and improve yourself as a football team.” (Daniel Varnado for the AJC)
