Kaela Davis scored 28 points and Tyaunna Marshall added 26 as Georgia Tech survived a chaotic finish to top Virginia 77-76 in Thursday’s second round of the ACC women’s basketball tournament in Greensboro, N.C.

The seventh-seeded Yellow Jackets (20-10) move to Friday’s quarterfinals to face 10th-ranked and second-seeded Duke. The Jackets lost their only meeting against Duke by 17 points on Jan. 5. The deficit matched the largest of the season in a loss for Georgia Tech.

They will have to play smarter than they did at the finish Thursday. The Yellow Jackets took a 77-74 lead on Aaliyah Whiteside’s three-point play with 13 seconds left. But on the next play, Georgia Tech’s Nariah Taylor was whistled for a technical foul for taunting after blocking Lexie Gerson’s 3-pointer.

Virginia’s Ataira Franklin hit both free throws with 3.7 seconds left and the Cavaliers got the ball back with a chance to win, but Franklin missed a hurried straightaway jumper at the horn.

Sarah Imovbioh had a career-high 27 points to go with 10 rebounds for the 10th-seeded Cavaliers (14-17), who made 26 of 27 free throws.
