Georgia State used a big run to start the second half to earn a 63-53 win over Alabama A&M in Hunstville, Ala., Wednesday evening.
Sophomore D’Marcus Simonds led the Panthers with 15 points and was one of three Panthers to score in double figures as juniors Devin Mitchell added 12 and Malik Benlevi scored 10.
Georgia State improved to 5-2 for the third time in the last four years, while Alabama A&M fell to 0-7.
“This was a gritty win for us tonight,” head coach Ron Hunter said. “Our defense kept us in the game in a tough environment to play. Our defensive effort is going to be what wins us a lot of games this year.”
Senior Jordan Session, playing in his 100th career game, finished with six points, while Isaiah Williams and Kane Williams each had with eight points.
