Not that it should come as any surprise, but Kentavious Caldwell-Pope was named SEC Player of the Year.
Again.
Caldwell-Pope, Georgia’s do-it-all sophomore guard, was named the SEC’s top men’s basketball player by Associated Press sports writers. The results of the writers’ voting was released Monday. Last week, Caldwell-Pope received the same distinction by the SEC’s coaches.
Caldwell-Pope was also the only unanimous pick on the AP’s All-SEC team. He joined Tennessee guard Jordan McRae, Alabama guard Trevor Releford, Florida forward Erik Murphy and Kentucky florward Nerlens Noel on the first team.
Excluded from the first team was Ole Miss guard Marshall Henderson. After the Rebels won the SEC tournament in Nashville on Sunday, Henderson called SEC coaches “losers” for not including him on their All-SEC team. He was named “newcomer of the year,” however.
Henderson also was named second team by the writers, along with Ole Miss teammate Murphy Holloway, Elston Turner of Texas A&M, Jarnell Stokes of Tennessee, Johnny O’Bryant III of LSU and Phil Pressey of Missouri.
Florida’s Billy Donovan was named coach of the year.
