Payne posts double-double in D-League game

Hawks rookie Adreian Payne had 17 points and 13 rebounds for Fort Wayne in a 103-93 NBA Development League win at Erie Saturday night.

Payne, the Hawks’ first-round draft pick, started the game at center. He was 4 of 9 from the field and 9 of 11 from the free-throw line. He added two assists, two blocks and one turnover in his 30 minutes. He was a plus-10.

In two games, which included Friday night’s game against Erie, Payne combined for 24 points on 6 of 21 shooting. He had 20 rebounds, four assists, three turnovers and two blocked shots in 61 minutes. He was 0 for 3 from 3-point range and 12 of 17 from the free-throw line. Combined he was a plus-13.

The plan was for Payne to play the two games for Fort Wayne and rejoin the Hawks. Fort Wayne does not play again until Friday. The Hawks have a day off Sunday and return to practice Monday.

The Hawks selected Payne with the 15th overall pick out of Michigan State. He has yet to play for the Hawks.
